SHOPPING IN LIGURIA

We now come to a topic all fathers, husbands or boyfriends on holiday with their wives and partners will probably hate…shopping in the Ligurian Riviera.
There are so many activities you can do while on holiday in the Cinque Terre: hiking along the Blue Trail, going sailing along the coastline to Portovenere,
scuba diving in Riomaggiore, going for a romantic walk at sunset on the “Via dell’Amore” (the lovers’ path), visiting Monterosso during the flower festival
"Infiorata" in August, enjoying a drink at the harbour of Vernazza, relaxing on the sandy beach of Deiva Marina, snorkelling in Manarola and much more.
With all these options, do you really need to go shopping? Of course! Grab your sunglasses, a big bag, your wallet, a camera and follow us!
No one will be disappointed! Shopping in Liguria means:

Weekly markets:
Wander around the stalls of the outdoor markets, open in every village on the Ligurian Riviera all year round. You will find at least one market per week day.
In Deiva Marina the market is every Saturday morning, in Chiavari on Friday, in Levanto and Camogli on Wednesday, and in Moneglia on Sunday.
Furthermore, in Genoa one of the biggest markets of the region is held every Thursday.

Cinque Terre outlet:
The "Cinque Terre" shopping centre will open soon in Brugnato.
If you do not mind driving and love shopping centres with a great range of designer labels, then the Serravalle Outlet,
which is about a 1.5 hour drive from Deiva Marina going towards Milan is the right place for you.
Here you will find all the famous brands, such as Gucci, Burberry, Bulgari, Camper, Iceberg, Lee, Prada, Liu Jo, Furla, Frette, Elena Miro and Intimissimi!
A new shopping centre in the town of Mondovì, called the "Mondo Vicino", has been recently opened.

Jewellery in Portofino:
Haute couture, antiques, art galleries and famous jewellery: Portofino and Santa Margherita offer the most glamorous of luxury shopping
and are the perfect place for those who enjoy shopping at elegant boutiques and spare no expense.
They are also ideal for all those who would just like to wander around and daydream in this shopping paradise.
Portofino and Santa Margherita can be easily reached by train, boat or car from the Hotel Clelia Logis d'Italia in Deiva Marina.

Only for early birds:
If you spend your holiday in Liguria in the spring, you should wake up early and go to CAMOGLI.
If you get to the harbour by 7 a.m. you can wait on the dock for the fishing boats coming back from the TONNARELLA fishery system,
one of the last of its kind being still used in Italy.
You can get a real feel for what a fishermen's job is like by helping them pass out the crates of fresh caught fish, which will be brought to the market.
As a sign of gratitude they will surely give you some fish for free that you can cook for lunch on the barbecue at the hotel!
If you love eating fish and want to discover more about sea life, you should not miss the FISH MARKET in Genoa,
which daily opens at 5 a.m.! It is sure to be an experience you won’t forget!
The sound of crates being moved from one place to another and the voices in the background of the famous song
"Creuza di Ma" by Fabrizio De Andrè were recorded there.
The fish markets of Santa Margherita Ligure and Sestri Levante are also worth a visit.

Historic Centres:
You can buy regional specialities in the historic centres of every village on the Eastern Riviera: pesto, olive oil, limoncino liqueur
made with the sweet-smelling lemons of Monterosso, salted anchovies, Vermentino and Sciacchetrà wines, among many other things.
When visiting Camogli, Sestri Levante, Deiva Marina, Levanto, Bonassola, Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, Riomaggiore,
Chiavari, Zoagli and Rapallo you will find a great range of specialities: take the taste of Liguria home with you!

Shopping in the bay of fables in Sestri Levante:
If you want to wander around exquisite boutiques and extravagant shops in the area, you should not miss the beautiful town with two bays, Sestri Levante.
It is only a 10-minute journey by train from Deiva Marina.

Clothes and shores in Carrugio Dritto:
Located in the ancient palaces of the city centre, most shops in Chiavari are situated in the pedestrian area of the main road "Carrugio Dritto".
This area is protected by the so-called “Portici Neri”, or black archways, and is a perfect place to shop for souvenirs even when it is raining!

Genoa, La Spezia and Sarzana:
Via XX settembre, Via San Vincenzo, Via Roma, Galleria Mazzini, the narrow alleyways of "Vicoli" in the historic centre with its traditional shops, as well
as herbalist's shops, bookshops, upholsterer workshops, tripe shops, and the Fiumara shopping centre, which is very popular among the youngsters.
Genoa, which is a city of great art, is also heaven on earth for the shopping addicted: here you will certainly find new bags,
shoes, swimwear and brands such as Calzedonia, Zara, Bata, Intimissimi, and Max & Co.
Do you need some more shopping? We recommend you visit the shopping centre "Le Terrazze" in La Spezia, which has over 90 stores.
However, if you are looking for a quieter location you should try the typical shops in Sarzana.

Organic food for everyone:
Varese Ligure and the Val di Vara valley are the right place if you want to buy organic cheese as well as charcuterie.

Cinque Terre wine tasting & wine tour:
Visitors can find typical wines of the region at the cooperative winery Cantina Sociale delle 5Terre, in the village of Groppo.
Wines such as the famous Sciacchetrà and DOC white wines are available here.
Cantine Lunae di Paolo Bosoni: this winery in Ortonovo, in the Lunigiana area, along the border between Liguria and Tuscany, is the perfect
location to taste and buy wine from the Luni hills, a famous area for the production of Vermentino wine and excellent red wines.

Typical Liguria specialities to take home:
In almost every high-quality grocery shop and in many supermarkets, you will find typical
Ligurian specialities to take home with you or to give to your friends as a gift!
Genovese pesto: typical basil sauce made with garlic, Sardinian cheese, pine nuts or the typical "quagliata" cheese.
Trofie and Testaroli: local kinds of pasta that are usually eaten with pesto.
Focaccia: you simply have to try all the types, with onion, cheese, olives...
Cappon magro: fish and shellfish on a vinegar-flavoured hardtack together with seasoned vegetables and a green parsley-sauce.
Pandolce genovese: typical Genovese Christmas cake with raisins and candied fruit.
Limoncino: yellow liqueur with an intense taste made with the famous lemons of Monterosso.
