If you are keen on nature, paths, ancient villages and small harbours, you will love being in the Cinque Terre.
In this wonderful area you will find: An unpolluted environment in a land where nature has prevailed for centuries over the settlement of men.
A landscape with no equals in the world, where tourism, nature, the production of wine and oil, and every-day life are perfectly intertwined to each other today.
Clothes hanging outside of the windows, wine cellars, peasants and fishermen enchant the tourists with an unforgettable touch of real life.
On the other hand, the returns of tourism contribute to the maintenance of the landscape of the five villages.
The ancient villages and the National Park of the Cinque Terre,
U N E S C O World Heritage site: Some years ago, Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore have been added
to the UNESCO
World Culture Heritage List, due to the architectural and natural importance of this area, reaching far beyond the Italian national scene.
The National Park and the Protected Marine Area have guaranteed the conservation of the local fauna and flora,
have protected the territory from real estate speculation and the sea from overfishing.
Beautiful paths throughout the park: The main path connects Sestri Levante, Moneglia, Deiva Marina, Framura,
Bonassola, Levanto throughout the National Park of the Cinque Terre continuing then to Campiglia and Porto Venere.
Numerous other paths go through the park, from the sea to the mountains.
Some of them such as Via dei Santuari are situated on an upper level.
In spite of the 2011 flood, all the routes - exception made for few deviations - are now perfectly practicable.
It is necessary to purchase the Cinque Terre Card to have access to some paths.
A territory easy to reach by train, since every village of the Cinque Terre has a train station.
On the other hand, it is very hard to discover the Cinque Terre by car, since there are few parking places and no road connecting the villages to each other.
In order to visit the villages you would have to drive uphill through narrow and winding roads and then downhill again.
If you love cycling or have a motorbike these roads can be very attractive for you.
A mild and pleasant climate in every season: Even in winter, in the hours when the sun feels the warmest, it is possible
to go on an excursion on foot. In summer, it is instead better to spend the sun peak times at the seaside or resting.
